Act I: Budapest Noir

Among the archive of our visits, certain fragments remain indelible. The unforgivably early bus rides through the freezing dawn, rewarded by the most brilliant, mesmerizing sunrises the city could offer. The high school class trip defined by collective maniac laugh hysteria. And the evening we staged a highly successful dinner where every variable aligned perfectly: the prime table, the live music, the culinary execution, and the timing.

Then, there is the beautiful absurdity. The random boys who requested we lie flat on the grass so they could perform backflips over us. The legendary, grueling 24-hour journey home, which involved crossing every single border on foot, navigating foreign police checkpoints, and being entirely, ostentatiously ignored by Polish border control. The strangers who declared immediate brotherhood the moment we uttered the word Poland.

A singular, defining exclamation echoes through the streets: O mój Boże Bazylika! Sending you sok puszi*- and with that, we pivot south toward the coast.

Act II: The Adriatic Light

If Budapest is a study in shadow and structure, Croatia is defined entirely by the sound of our laughter echoing over the water.

Our time along the Adriatic coast was an exercise in living dangerously and beautifully. We scaled massive, sun-baked boulders on mountain crests, pillaging wild grapevines on our descent. We accepted transport in the trunk of an unsuspecting Austrian family's car. We slipped onto a deserted nudist beach in the dead of night to drink beer, sing unprompted melodies, and track falling stars against a pitch-black sky.

There were, admittedly, moments of genuine terror - the ill-fated boat excursion comes to mind, my tears included - but navigating those anxieties alongside you transformed the fear into a cinematic thrill just by being present. We befriended a local fisherman proudly displaying the octopus destined for his dinner plate.

The geography, ultimately, is secondary. A routine espresso, a quiet walk, or an inside joke that defies all logic holds immense weight simply because it is shared with you. Without this connection, the scenery is meaningless.

Navigating adulthood without your presence is entirely unimaginable. Even during the quiet chapters when distance or lack of time keeps us apart, the simple reality of your friendship makes the chaos of life manageable. You remain an anchor, holding an entirely sacred, unshakeable space in my life.

There are infinite horizons left for us to document.

Navigating the unknown with you remains my absolute favorite occupation. In this lifetime, nothing compares. I intend to collect an infinite number of these horizons with you. There is simply too much left for us to see.

Next stops await.

*Phonetically brilliant; linguistically scandalous.
